| 3) With the 2nd
ribbon (this will be called youre A weft ribbon), cut 8 pieces 14 long. Begin
weaving these pieces in from the upper left corner across and down toward the middle of
the right side. The bottom edge of the first ribbon will be about 7 down from the
top of the edge of the fabric on the right side. Its approximately a 30-degree
angle. Do not pin until youve woven a few strips. The pattern repeat is a repeat of 3. The A weft should be woven through the warp as follows: 1st A strip - over 1, under 2, over 1, under 2, repeating across the entire square. 2nd A strip - under 1, over 1, under 2, over 1, repeating the underlined part only across the square. 3rd A strip - under 2, over 1, under 2, over 1, repeating across the entire square. Repeat these 3 patterns until youve covered the square from the top left corner to the lower right corner. Secure the ends of these ribbons to the interfacing with pins. (See fig. 2) Continue weaving the pattern filling in the corners of the pillows. The lengths of ribbon you need will get progressively shorter as you get closer to the corners. You can determine the length of each piece by holding it against your work and cutting only as much as you need for each strip. As you weave near the edges, release and refasten pins as needed. 4) To weave the 3rd ribbon (this will be called the B weft ribbon), start at the lower left side of the square and weave toward the upper right side. Use tweezers or a bodkin to help weave the B weft ribbon. Begin the first row by weaving under 1 warp and over 2 warps, under 1 and over 2. You will repeat this pattern across the square. As you weave this pattern, you will be going under the 2nd and 3rd repeat row of the A weft and over all 1st row repeats of the A weft ribbon. This will be true for all rows of the B weft ribbon. Refer to figure 3. In the center of the drawing you will see tweezers. If you slip your tweezers under the ribbon as shown, it will be easier to pull the B weft ribbon through. Start the 2nd row of the B weft by going over 2 warp ribbons, and under 1 warp ribbon and repeat across the pillow going over or under the A weft ribbon as discussed above. The 3rd row of the B weft should start over one warp ribbon, under 1warp ribbon, over 2 warp ribbons, under 1 warp, repeating the underlined part only across the row. To see the finished look of the weaving, refer to fig.3. As with the A warp, continue across the pillows and finish the corners, cutting the ribbon lengths as you go. 5) Fuse the ribbon weaving to the interfacing following the manufacturers directions for proper fusing. Baste around the square along the pencil line. 6) Cut 2 satin rectangles measuring 8X12. Finish one long side of each rectangle by turning under 1/2 and sewing or fusing with a fusible webbing. 7) To create a ruffled edge with the blanket binding, with the right side of the woven square up, pin the binding with the smooth lip in the seam allowance and ruffle toward the center of the pillow. (See fig.4) To turn the corners you will have to clip the seam binding. The ruffled blanket binding should be placed so the ruffled part of the binding starts on the penciled line. Baste. With the woven pillow top face up, lay the 2 rectangles, wrong sides up on the woven square matching raw edges and overlapping the finished edges in the center of the square. (the ruffle should be sandwiched between the woven pillow top and the satin rectangles) Baste. Carefully stitch around the square 5/8 from the raw edge. Turn pillow and check to see ruffle is lying properly then, turn inside out again, stitch 1/8 away from the first stitching inside the seam allowance and trim the seam allowance close to the second stitching. 8) Turn the pillow cover right side out and stuff with a 10 pillow form. Sew a 20 piece of ribbon on the pillow cover. Tie the ribbon into a bow and embellish with ribbon roses or silk roses. |
